Lemondrop is a relatively new but highly regarded hop variety, resulting from a cross between the popular Cascade and the experimental USDA 19058. Developed in 2001, Lemondrop quickly gained renown for its unique and vibrant aromatic profile.
Harvested in the United States starting mid-August, Lemondrop is primarily used for late additions in the brewing process, including dry hopping. This allows its complex aromas to fully develop without being diminished by prolonged boiling.
As the name suggests, Lemondrop offers an intense explosion of citrus aromas, dominated by strong notes of fresh lemon. The aromatic palette is complemented by delicate floral nuances, subtle fruity flavours, and surprising herbal accents. You will also discover refreshing notes of mint, green tea, and even light hints of melon.
Due to its versatility, Lemondrop is an ideal ingredient for a variety of beer styles, from aromatic IPAs and refreshing blonde ales to experimental beers with complex taste profiles. It adds a distinct and memorable note to any beer it is used in. Each harvest may bring slight variations in the aromatic profile, but the distinctive citrus character and freshness remain constant.
